I don't know why, but Louis to me is always pronounced the French way, even though I know it's not always pronounced that way and I really don't like the sound of Loo-ee. x_x

Ditto.

I don't like LOO-ee, but I am rather partial to just Lewis, sound-wise.

Also, in my mind Louis is obnoxiously aristocratic whereas Lewis is a bit scrappier. The latter has more character and strength, IMO.
