[Opinions] Re: Irish names (ETA)
in reply to a message by DakotaGrace
I have so many it's hard to choose.
Top five for each gender would be: Niamh, Aoife, Sinead, Mairead and Emer / Eimear; Desmond, Cormac, Malachy, Tadhg / Tighe and Finbarr.
But there are so many more that I love:
Blaithin / Blathnat, Muriel / Muirgheal, Orla / Orlaith, Deirdre, Maureen, Alva / Ailbhe, Eilis, Maeve / Meabh, Aisling / Aislinn, Oona / Oonagh, Aifric, Eibhlin, Liadan, Isolde, Caoimhe, Siobhan, Cathleen, Eileen, Rhona, Grainne, Aine, Brigid / Breda / Brigh, Talulla, Alannah, Eithne, Lassarina, Mor, Isibeal ("ISH-bayl");
Ailbhe, Eoghan, Patrick / Padraig, Garvan / Garbhan, Conor, Fergal, Eamonn, Niall, Ronan, Seamus, Muiris, Brendan, Columba / Colm, Dermot / Diarmuid, Cathal, Rory, Donal, Fergus, Liam, Aidan, Mathuin, Tyrone, Brian, Fintan, Oscar, Enda, Declan, Kieran / Ciaran, Garrett, Lorcan, Senan, Ulick / Uilleag, Turlough.
ETA: I have one GP Irish name for a girl, Connemara. It's not a real Irish girl's name, it's a place / region in the West of Ireland. But I always thought Connemara, nn Mara would be a neat name.
A poster once was considering "Shea Connemara" for a dd. Shea isn't really my style because of its unisex quality. But it flows so well with Connemara that I grew to like the combination quite a lot.
