What happened in 1921:
Nothing momentous occurs. Edward makes plans to retire in 1922. Adam and Samantha are busy raising their brood.
What happened in 1922:
Edward retires from the police force, and decides to open up Ash Hill's first newspaper office. Ben and Mikey are a great help. Adam and Samantha are still living in Washington, D.C. with their children. Ben plans to help Edward out at the newspaper office until he can save up enough cash to put a down payment on some land. Mikey still has plans to go to medical school, and he helps out at the newspaper office whenever possible so that he can earn a little spending money. Henry and Hope run the newspaper route for Edward before school each morning.
What happened in 1923:
Lou slips on ice in the winter and breaks a hip. She is taken to Denver for emergency surgery and spends most of the year in recovery. Hope takes over most of the housework and misses a lot of school in order to do so. Edward is enjoying running the newspaper, and the residents of Ash Hill are happy to have a paper of their own. Adam and Samantha welcomed a set of twins in April! They are a boy and a girl named Jacob and Lena. Thankfully, both are healthy and happy. Adam and Samantha have their hands full, but they are happy as well. Ben met a girl that he really likes. Her name is Rebecca Smith, and her father owns a bakery in the next town over. Wilhelm and Alice are proud parents to Wilhelm and Gustav and the little family now lives on their own farm not far from Wilhelm's parents farm.
Johan and Mary have a little daughter, Karolina and Johan has just finished building his house and the family will be moving in, in the next few weeks.
Karl has married a girl from a German immigrant family and they have a newborn son, Victor Henrik. Unlike his older brothers Karl now lives in the city where he tries to make a living as a carpenter.
Sara Cecilia met the love of her life when she was only 19 and she married James Joseph only a few months after their first meeting. In 1923 Sara gave birth to twins but tragedy struck and just a few weeks old the baby boy called Lee died. The little girl, Lillian on the other hand was a healthy baby and both Sara and James Joseph adore their daughter.
Nils still lives with his parents, working hard in the fields and in the barn. Since his older brothers Wilhelm and Johan have their own farms and Karl lives in the city it will be Nils that one day take over the farm from his father.

One day, Diana came home dressed in a knee-length skirt and a face splashed with make-up. Orlando and Penelope freaked out. They told her it was rude to run around like that. Diana also was going out with a divorced man ten years her senior. At first, they disapproved of his relationship, but then they ended up getting married.
Edward and Rose have also gotten married and had children.
