There have been many more grandchildren in the family. Plus, with Polixena's marriage, everyone is out of the house except for Anibal.
Olivia fell in love with Shadi, a Lebanese immigrant to Brazil. The family found out that Shadi was a Muslim. Samir and Honorata were worried that she would be unhappy with him. Olivia got angry and ran away with Shadi. Three months later, they found out they were married - and expecting! When Olivia's daughter was born in 1930, Samir and Honorata were suddenly overjoyed. The baby was named Zahra Alexandra.
Even worse, in 1930, a man by the name of Getulio Vargas became dictator of Brazil. The Kassars do not like him and feel he is oppressive. They hope one day he will be overthrown.
