I've been thinking about it lately. WDYT? It's got a lovely meaning. Is it a bit too "exotic" to use if you don't have a Middle Eastern background? It's used in Spain as well, but not elsewhere, I believe.

I have a friend of mine, i'm not sure of her back ground, her name is Soraya Massiel. I also know of a girl from Brazil with this name.

My husband has always liked the name (he's Middle Eastern).I'm surprised he didn't suggest it for our daughter.

I like Soraya a lot. My mother used to know an(Irish Jewish) woman who had a daughter called Soraya. Probably the only Soraya in Ireland at the time. I was enchanted with it when she told me about it.

I think it's usable even if you don't have a Middle Eastern background - it's doesn't look particularly ethnic, Thurayya is a different matter though. I agree it has a lovely meaning.

I think it's used all over Europe, so I don't see the problem.

I love Soraya! I don't think it's too exotic to use at all. The only problem might be a bit of pronunciation confusion, would you say RAY or RYE?

Should I have another daughter Soraya/ Saraya would be a likely contender for mn.
