Our First YearMariano has made tremendous progress in school; his spoken and understood knowledge of English increased in his first few months home, and now he's practically fluent. With the help of tutors and committed teachers, Mariano is near grade level in all of his studies despite his dyslexia and dyscalculia. His eigth grade science teacher believes Mariano is a delightful student, and will help him to acheive his dream of studying zoology in the future. Mariano is also the star soccer player on his team, where he's made many friends. He showed off his improving soccer skills to his birth family this past summer, when we visited them for two weeks in San Paolo. Everyone in his birth and adoptive families are so proud of him.Karina is so precious. She's a star student in her preschool class, regularly impressing her teacher with her knowledge and creative ideas. Karina's favorite activity is playing "doctor" with her dolls; this makes my husband and I so proud. Maybe she'll follow in our footsteps. She's definitely Daddy's little girl; they read a bedtime story together every night, and he drops her off at preschool each day. Karina has also been enrolled in beginner piano lessons, and surprisingly, she shows a lot of natural talent. Julio and I are so proud of Karina's budding accomplishments, as we know her birth parents would have been. We thank you for the opportunity to welcome Karina and Mariano into our lives.
