It's sooooo dated for me. I really can't get past that; I know a bunch of Cheryls, all about 50-60. I don't see it making a comeback, at least where I live.
Sheryl is really the only other spelling I've seen.
I don't think it's too insubstantial because it's made up. I just think it's incredibly dated.
