My name is Melissa and I was born in the 80s. I used to go by Missi, but I'm trying to get out of that now that I'm 25. I know two other Melissas that were born in the 80s, one goes by Missy, and three that were born in the 70s, one goes by Missy and one by Mel. I also know a Melisa that was born in the 50s.

I like my name, I just know too many people around my age that have the same one.

It's usable, but it has that dated feel about it. I know 3 Melissa's, i used to work with one of them, and if you knew her it would turn you off the name for life.

I think it will come back around, it's a beautiful name. I really like it and actually considered it for a moment when I was pregnant. But the fact that I do know a few in my age group (late 30's) put me off of it. But I still think it's a lovely name and will definitely have a comeback. I don't find it too dated to use on a baby though, not at all.

I know three Melissa's and I find it very dated. The youngest one is 24, and she does not have a nickname and the name just doesn't suit her. The others are between 35 and 40, and one goes by Missy. It still seems like a trendy mom name to me.

I'm a Melissa :) I think it can be used and I don't see it as dated at all. I know a few Melissa's most of them are under 20 though. Personally I go by Mel, Melly or sometimes Milly.

I think Melissa is an alright name, I get complimented on it quite a bit. I'd go for Melissa over Melisa though.

I only know one Melissa and she's my cousin. I think it may rise again, but probably not anytime soon. I dislike Missy as a nickname, to me it sounds rather snobbish. The only nicknames my cousin goes by is Mel and Melmo. I don't like Melisa though, I know it's a legit name but to me it looks more like a misspelling.

I;ve met or known lots of Melissas... mostly in their 20s and 30s right now. I think it's an ok name and can still be used. A few have gone by Missy or Mel, but most I've known have gone by the full Melissa.

I have a cousin called Melissa. She was born in the 80s and I've never come across anyone else with the name. She doesn't use any nn though.

I don't think Melissa is dated at all. It's really sweet and feminine sounding and would be perfect for a child today. I know it was really common in the 70s but I don't think of it as a fad name at all. A good nn would be Lissa or Lissy, Missy is okay, but definately NOT Mel or Mellie.

I don't like Melisa though. I prefer Elisa.
