[Opinions] Michele

That's my middle name
Though I'm not a boy, and it's pronounced the same way as Michelle. ;) It's after my aunt, who's named Michele.
I don't mind it on a boy - but then, I've been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls lately and there was a male Michele on that show. :D Plus, just about anything goes as a mn IMO.

In Italian, it's pronounced completely differently, basically Mee-KAY-lay. (don't know how the character in the show pronounces it).
:o) thanks
thanks everyone!

If you use it for a boy, drop the final e. With an e, it becomes a girls' name.
actually Michele is also an Italian boy's name I checked before I posted it:).

If you're pronouncing it like Michelle, then nix. Not good.
If you're pronouncing it the Italian way, that's some better, but it still looks like Michelle and is likely to be assumed to be Michelle.
I actually know a boy about 13 or so named Michele. His parents moved here from Italy only about ten or so years ago. He pronounces it Michael, probably to sound more American.

I'll probably say it the Italian way :)
Well, it's just my old dislike of Italian names, I guess, but I can't stand it. It's the same thing that bothers me with names like Samuele, Rafaele, Daniele and those, the "e" at the end. I think it sounds unpleasant.
If it's Italian and pronounced mee-KEH-le it's fine. If you want it pronounced mee-SHELL, spell it Michel (the French way). If you live in the US people will always assume he was a she.
I like it said either way doesn't matter since it's only a middle name :).
My friend her name is Michele and says it "mee-shell" even though it's incorrect, lol. Thing is I say meh-shell, not "mee".
thanks for the french version too, but I prefer the "e" at the end it looks incomplete without it for me.

The reason it would look incomplete to you without the e is you're prob'ly only used to seeing the girls' version 'cause you live in a rather non-French area where Michele/Michelle is common and Michel isn't... much like we'll often use Daniele/Danielle as a girls' name and pronounce it that way, but the French also pronounce Daniel that way on a boy. We're just not used to it if we don't have a lot of French around us.
Please also take into consideration your son's situation of always having to explain the matter if you inflict him with the girls' spelling.

It would be his middle name, and it's a legit boy's name I don't think he'd have to really explain anything, but if he had to he could just say "It's the Italian version of Michael".
ETA: I do agree with you about probably since Michelle is more common here I'm used to the "e". :o)

mee-SHELL would be correct for Michele (French, female) but it would need the accent on the E, Michèle.
ah ok I got you :)
