I'm not a fan. I never understood why it's still so common, I think it's harsh sounding, dated (in a classic-dated kind of way, like Amanda and Rebecca are dated) and unattractive (sorry, no offense). I think names that most people see as dated (Lucille or even Mabel, Dorothy and Mildred) are much more charming than Elizabeth and I really don't get why it's still common. Even Mary is almost out of the top 100 yet Elizabeth just doesn't leave.I think of the queen. As she is portrayed in the movie Elizabeth by Cate Blanchett. I'm not a big fan of the movie and I always think of her in her older years when she was a bit overweight and had that weird pale face and that serious expression on her face all of the time. When I see Elisabeth I think of my friend who is Elisabeth, nn Betty. She is the only Elisabeth/Elizabeth I know. The name is seen as really dated here in Germany and is hardly used for babies.I prefer Elisabeth but it doesn't make much of a difference. When I see Alison and Allison I find Alison much more attractive but with Elizabeth and Elisabeth it doesn't really matter.I guess I like Libby quite a bit and Lily (prefer this on its own or as a nn for Lillian, Liliana etc). It's still a mystery to me how you get all those nicknames out of Elizabeth though. I understand Beth and Eliza or Eli, Liz and Lizzie but the other don't make sense unless you pronounce it the German way, then Betty makes sense as well.

I think it depends on the spelling. Elisabeth is softer, girlier, like a princess, and Elizabeth is still lady-like, but stronger, like a woman's rights activist.
My favorite nn are Elise, Eliza (My Fair Lady always comes to mind), Libby, and Betsy/Betsey, although Zabeth could be fun & I've heard of Lily as a nn for it. I also think that Elsie should be brought back, so this would be my first pick.
Middle names:
I've heard "Adora" used; possible
Lennox or Flannery for girls who want to be feminine but consider Elizabeth overdone; they could always go by their mn
Cecily/Cecile/Cecille/Cecilia, etc.
Virginia
Kattalin (my new discovery--love! A Basque name.)
Trilby (another new one; actually, Trilby Elizabeth would be nice. Heard last in the 1800's.)
Blake/Blair/Harper/Harlow/Langtry/Carrington-those "upperclass" names
Sofia
Moira or Maire; better than the ever uber-popular mn Marie
Anastasia-maybe she'll fall in love with it and use it on her won daughter!
Ophelia
Arabella
Juliet
Lyric-not as overused as Melody, and softer sounding
Yasmin, Jasmine
Gloria
Clara
Quintessa (sounds so royal!) If used as fn, possible nn Quinn
Quinley
Amelie
Imilia
Marasofia
Keelin
Keiran
Jessamine (delicious!)
Sabina
Alexia
Karlina
CharlotteLike any? (:

Boring. Overused. Ugly.I really am sick of it to the point of where I abaolutely hate it. I would likely like it or even love it if it weren't popular.

It's my middle name and I can't stand itBut I wouldn't necessarily call it ugly. Dick is an ugly name because, well... yeah. Sh'uhneekwa is an ugly name because it just plain is. There is nothing inherently wrong with the name Elizabeth, but I just can't stand it. IMO, saying Elizabeth is a horrible name is just like saying Michael is a horrible name. They're not bad, just boring as heck.

I love Elizabeth! It's so gorgeous! It's my third favorite girl name. It's so beautiful and classy/classic! I much prefer Elizabeth over Elisabeth. I love many of the nicknames for Elizabeth, most of the odd ones too. I would most likely use Betsy, Beth, Ella, Buffy, Lissy, Bess, and Bessie. I also really like Betty, Eliza, Liesel, Elle, Elsbeth, Lily, Lillibet, and Elsie. I hate Libby, Liz, and Lizzy-they sound so horrid to me, like nails on a chalkboard!I like Elizabeth Pearl, Elizabeth Cordelia, Elizabeth Virginia, Elizabeth Rose with the nickname Lily-Rose would be really cute.

I adore this name, so beautiful, historic, and with so many nns to choose from.
I would spell it Elizabeth, since that is the usual Brit and Aussie spelling and the s version would be liable to getting misspelled frequently.
I like Libby as the nn.
I like the combo Elizabeth Miriam.

ElizabethI really love this name. Yes, it's very popular, but it's also classic and timeless. And it gives you a lot of sounds to work with.I like most of them, particularly: Ellie, Lizzie/Lizzy, and LizaI'd choose a shorter, less popular middle name to balance it out.

Elizabeth is my favorite. I don't really like Elisabeth. I want to pronounce it i-LEE-sa-beth, which I guess is close to the German pronunciation. But I don't really like it said that way.My favorite nicknames are Lily, Libby, and Ellie. Eliza and Liz/Lizzie are alright too.My Elizabeth combo is Elizabeth Claire, I think. I would consider using Elizabeth because my middle name is Elyse (Claire for my grandfather, btw). But my husband has crossed it off the list anyway. :)Edit: Oh, and I suppose you gathered that I like it, since I'd consider using it and all. :P I think it's very simple and classic, and very pretty. I just love to say it.

I prefer the Elizabeth spelling; it seems stronger, which is where the appeal of the name lies, I think. When I hear Elizabeth, I think "Bennet." :) Which is why I love the name. I'm not really one for nicknames, but since Elizabeth has so many I can make an exception here. I ADORE Bess and Betsy, love Eliza, and like Beth alright. My Elizabeth combo at the moment is Elizabeth Hedwig. Eilis has Elizabeth Alberta, which I think is positively wonderful. Overall, I think Elizabeth needs something a bit more eccentric, but probably any length could work. I'd like anything from Elizabeth Delphine to Elizabeth Hero to Elizabeth Apolline to... you know, pretty much anything, so long as it's interesting. And doesn't start with a B or something, 'cause then it just wouldn't flow, eh?
