Message: "Nate" - Behind the Name

I LOVE the name Nate, but don't like Nathan or Nathaniel, or anything else I see (like Natan and different variants of Nathaniel).

Anyone know of any other name that Nate could possible come from in any way?

Well, a large part of why I dislike the names Nathan and Nathanial is the nn, Nate. "Nate" is a racial slur for Native American or Native Alaskan.

It might be a nice twist on Jonathan, seeing as Jon is a very overused nickname.

sorry... Can't think of other actual names with Nate as a nn right now... just random words like pollinate, procrastinate and nativity (actually, that last one might almost be usable the way the current trends are going with people using words that are a little more obvious in meaning, but not usually thought of as names).
