[Opinions] Crystal
Just wondering what you all thought of Crystal. With all of those jewel names (Ruby, Jade, Diamond, Emerald) making a comeback do you think Crystal could come back as well? Or is it too dated to the 80s? do you know any Crystals? How old are they and how do they spell it? Do you happen to know their middle names or whether they like their name?
Would you prefer Krystle or any of the other spellings? Crystelle, Krystal?

Trashy.
Sorry.
Crystal and Amber are two of the quintessential borderline trailer-trash names. No escaping it, I think. Just ick. Ditto for Jade, Diamond and Emerald - just no. Ruby for some reason has a different feel to it but the rest are just trashy. And misspelling Crystal just makes it worse - then it is trailer-trash.

Strangely enough, I looooooove it spelt Krystal. Crystal's okay, though, as it is the original name. I usually hate spellings like Krystal, but this time, I like it, a lot. I also like Christelle,(krees-tell,) considered a French variant though it isn't even really related (it was influenced, though).
I really dislike it. Crystal isn't even a jewel name. It is a style that gems (or just glass) are cut into. That's like saying Bouquet is a flower name.(I actually know a woman named Bouquet, ick)
I really dislike almost all gem names (except Ruby, Opal, and Jasper)I don't see Jade, Diamond, or Emerald making a comeback at all, they all seem dated and out of use. I know a few Crystals, all in their late 20's/early 30's, so it's completely dated to the 70-80's.

I knew a Crystal back in middle school, not sure what her MN was. And I know a Krystal now, her MN is Marie. I never heard either one complain about their name, Krystal has a bit of trouble with the spelling but people get it after she explains it once. Personally I think it is a very dated and tacky name that should remain in the 80s. Some words work as names, and some don't. Crystal, no matter the spelling, is on the don't list.
I'm not so fond of the name. I went through school with two girls named Crystal and they are 26 or 27 now. I recently found out that one of my friends from high school has a daughter named Crystal Rose. She is three. All three Crystals' names were spelled that way and I prefer that spelling.
I don't think it is ready to make a comeback...it is so 80s...and I think most people see it as a tacky name. I know I do. Yuck, I really dislike Crystal and the spelling variations that seem to be quite common make it even worse.
I've always liked it a lot. My favorite cousin is named Cyrstal Gayle. She was born in 1968. I don't actually know if the singer Cyrstal Gayle was popular back then or, if she was, whether my cousin was named after her. I've known several Crystals of various spellings, they seem to range in birth year from the mid-sixties to the mid-nineties.
I think Crystal's peak in popularity is still too recent for it to "come back" although it is still relatively popular.

The Krystal I know is 25.
she has a 15 year-old sister, named Danaya.

It's so trashy. I don't want to see it make a comeback.
Besides, if you wanted to name your child after a jewel, why would you choose glorified glass?

I think the name Crystal is rather nice, though it does come across as a little trashy in some ways, and while I think it could come back I don't think it will, as it is quite dated to the eighties and people who grew up then are having kids now so it probably won't appeal to them. I know two girls named it, one is fifteen and spells it Khrystle, which she hates because people never get it write even when she tells them letter by letter. I also have a friend named Crystal who is fourteen, her middle name is Anne, and I think she likes her name. I dislike all spellings other than Crystal, although Krystal isn't THAT bad.
