What do you think of the name Ian?

It's my dad's fn, but I'm not a big fan of it!!
One of my avourite names.
I think it is lovely and very handsome, although it is easy to understand why so many people find it wheeny. In my option it is a strong and modest name that woud fit anyone. I also love different John-names - Ivan, Jan, Jean, Sean, Johannes are the few I can mention now. I think they're all lovely.
It's just so blimming popular where I live, that I really really dislike it.
It's wonderful!
I really like it. It's not mentioned on the boards often, so I'm not sure how other members feel about it, but I find it short, simple and handsome all in one. Plus, it's almost like a blank slate. Just because of predisposed assumptions, you'd expect somebody named Jake to be very athletic, Bartholomew to be very high-class and a boy named Gaylord to be an absolute loser. But Ian doesn't have that. It's blue, and that's all that I can say. Somebody named Ian can be anything. I know this very sweet 11-year-old boy named Ian. He's such a cute kid. And I also know an extremely athletic and intelligent (and dare I say handsome beyond measure?) 16-year-old boy named Ian. It's such a great name!

I don't like it. I think it's silly-sounding.
I really like it.
I know a lot of people think it sounds whiny, but I think it's simple and handsome. Plus there's a character in one of my favorite books who made me like it more.

Same here
as far as the simple and handsome go. :-) I've known a handful of very nice Ians; it gives the name a pleasant feel to me.

It's not my favorite name but pronounced ee-an it's ok. Some people pronounce it eye-an which is terrible.
I like it, not quite as much as I like Ivan, but it's good.
Ian is my father-in laws name. It is a strong masculine name but suits a little boy too.
Sounds old, and nerdy.
I like it. It's a good name for a boy.
