What does everyone think of the name Jason? I really dislike it and it certainly has a very 70s & 80s feel to it, I think. I was so surprised that it's still relatively popular.
I know of someone that named her son Christopher (Chris) Jason, I would expect that name on a 30 year old man but not a baby! :)

I don't mind Jason at all, even though it is very 70's/80's.

It reminds me of jellybeans for no reason that I can think of, other than that they start with the same letter. Pink jellybeans in particular.
I don't know many Jasons, and I guess it does seem a bit dated, I think it was the 'Josh' ten years before Josh (in NZ anyway).
Plus there's a character on Coronation St called Jason who's a bit of a prat, and his girlfriend says his name really annoyingly (sort of like jay-SERN, (in non-rhotic dialects the 'r' isn't prn, but the last syllable rhymes with 'turn' and I can't think of how to explain how the name's prn otherwise, sorry!) instead of JAY-sin). All of those factors add up to making me really not liking the name.

I am with you. I think that it's still popular because now people have figured out how to modernise it with "Jase."

Umm Faulkner for me made Jason go from a Blah Boring 70's Incredibly Boring Awfulsounding Blah Blah Blah Like Eating A Fistful Of Crackers to All those things + Really evil. So nothing positive to say about this.

I actually adore it. I have this thing for name that start with the Jay- sound and i just like it. Frankly I get a Power Rangers vibe, so more of an early nineties thing from it and I think that in the back of my mind Power Rangers is the reason I like it (I watched that show all the time when I was little)

Once I kind of forgave myself for liking something so uncharacteristic of my naming style ;-) I really got into Jason (ditto Justin and, to a lesser degree, Kevin). I suppose once I stopped being a teenager along with every Jason I happened to know, it stopped being a teenager name to me--and subsequently started to have quite the handsome ring to it. So I'm a relatively new fan.
Oh, plus I should note the actor Jason Isaacs; that probably pushed it over the edge for me. I'd imagine that helped it have more of a Man's Name sort of appeal as well.
My only beef with Christopher Jason is that I think the flow would be better as Jason Christopher. Other than that it would get my stamp of approval, for what it's worth.

Two of the Jason's I know are my age, and two are in my cousin's first grade class. It don't picture it on someone in their thirties. I don't really like the name, but its not bad, just nms.

Yeah, it's really dated, and I've known a lot of jerky Jasons, but... well, I've also known one in particular who made up for all of that. He had (well, has, but I never see him anymore) such a wonderful sense of humor; he was one of those people who I may not have known terribly well, but he made a bit of an impact on me anyways.
...Uh, I also like the name's meaning. And my favorite combo ATM is Jason Jasper, because I'm a sucker for alliteration.

Then I should probably share with you that I know a Jessica Jane and a Raisa Rachel. Raisa Rachel goes by Rosie, because Raisa means "rose" in Yiddish. So Rosie Rachel. Just thought I'd share =].

I love both! Seriously, I think alliteration is vastly underrated. It's so gosh-darn FUN. And the Js especially are my favorite!

Oh, I adore Jason!
I know that it was popular in the 70s and 80s, but I see it as a mythological name more than anything. You know, Jason and the Argonauts. I love that story. And that's the association I get whenever I see the name Jason, not some guy born in the 80s. I'd love to use it.

A number of posters are dating Jasons, including myself. He absolutely loves his name. He says that it's well-known but not too popular like Michael, you can't mispronounce it, it's got a great history, it's not too long or short.
Of course like any name there are multiple ways to screw around with it: Jayson, Jasen, Jaysen, Jaysin. Let's not go there, though...
I've only known two Jasons in my life and they're both the same age as me (20). Edit: So I guess I get that it's a bit dated now, but since I've only even known the two, the thought never crossed my mind. Oops.
So I guess it's all a matter of personal preference. There's nothing really wrong with it at all, and all his points are true: it's popular without being oh-god-if-I-hear-that-name-ONE-MORE-TIME popular, it's easy to say and hasn't got anything frivolous about it, it's got a cool story behind it AND it's biblical so nice and "wholesome". But still, I can't really bring myself to love it, or even like it much. And it's my boyfriend's name.

Objectively speaking, I like the name Jason, and I can see why it was appealing to so many people way back when it first became popular. As you say, though, it is dated now, but that's not its only problem. It was way too popular, and there are way too many Jasons. So it's in the same category as Sarah and Joshua for me. They are all nice names, but I've known so many people with these names that I'm sick to death of them. Jason needs a long rest.

It's definitely dated. However, when I hear the name I think more of Jason and the Argonauts.
Christopher Jason is a nice combo IMO. It's miles better than some currently trendy name.
