Well, even if you pick an unpopular name, it won't be "unique". An "unique" name is one of its kind.
Otherwise, I agree with Tippins. I have a super-popular name in my country, and my parents had picked it because they thought it was uncommon , and indeed it was for their generation (but there wasn't the internet at the time to check names'popularities).
