I don't know who that person is.

Do a quick google and you will find a lot of stuff about her
The short simplified story of Wallis Simpson is that she was a twice married american divorce who became the mistress to Edward Prince of Wales while still married to her second husband.
When Edward became king she divorced her huband and Edward asked her to marry him.
This caused uproar and Edward as head of the church of England was forced to abdicate in favour of his younger brother.
It may seem like a great romance but the Duke and Duchess of Windsor as they became known were two very self obsessed people, Wallis was very bitter that the British establishment refused to allow her the title HRH.
The pair were rumoured to be Nazi Sympathisers and just before the second world war visited Germany as personal guests to Hitler.
Wallis was also said to have had a racist attitude.
I just get the picture in my head of a spoilt selfish Opportunist with no morals and because the name Wallis is so rare its kind of hard to not seperate the name from the woman.

Agree with this
She wasn't really a good namesake! And it's not an attractive sound to me.

Wallis may have been self-obsessed and selfish, and a Nazi sympathizer along with her husband. But I have some sympathy for her, because the two main reasons that she wasn't allowed to be Queen, and then denied the HRH title, was that she was an American (she could have become a British citizen--or maybe she did--I'm not sure), and she was divorced. Now that Prince Charles, who is himself divorced, though his ex-wife died, has married divorcee Camilla, it's difficult not to see Wallis as a victim of a repressive moralistic mentality.
I do hate the name Wallis, however.

The main reason that Wallis could not become Queen was because of the divorce. The monarch is head of the Church of England and at the time (apparently up until 2002) the Church of England did not agree with divorce and did not let divorcees re-marry in church so the head of the Church couldn't marry a divorcee. I definitely think it's a good thing that times have changed. Regarding Charles and Camilla, there is still a lot of bad feeling amongst some people about their marriage, especially as they both comitted adultury throughout their marriages (another sin) but the decision has been made now.
As far as Wallis being American is concerned, I'm sure this would not have been a barrier against her marrying Edward, if she had been considered otherwise "suitable." As far as I know, the only real barrier to being part of the monarchy (or Prime Minister) is being Catholic.
