My dd is called Pearl Evangeline and people always comment on how unusual it is and having never met another of any age, so i don't think it will be popular. I obviously love the name.

I can see it becoming a little more popular, but I don't think it's going to get super, super popular.

I think it'll probably come back into popularity like so many other names have. Take my name for example. I'm 15, and when I was born my parents didn't know any other Chloe's except my great great aunt whom I was named after, and now there are so many Chloe's. Pearl is a very lovely name. I would probably use it for a middle name, but that's just me. It'll definately make a come-back in popularity soon. But Ethel, on the other hand...

I think Pearl is slowly coming back, but hopefully won't be nearly as popular as Emma, etc. I have an 11-yr old with the middle name of Pearl.

I love Pearl. But no, I don't think it's going to become popular anytime soon, though old names are coming back into style

I think Pearl is beautiful on any age.

I like the name Pearl but propably wouldn't use as a first name because of the old lady image. I would deffinately us it as a middle name though!!! It may see a surge, I don't know, I hope it does!

I think everything old is now new. It saddens me, because like you, I've loved more classic, old-fashioned names for years before it became a style trend. I love Pearl, and I think it will rise in popularity, but not to the proportions of Emma, Abigail and the like.

I think it will grow in popularity, but in no way do I think it's going to hit a common use status.
I love Hazel and people think it's a "old lady name" and while it too is becoming more popular, it isn't really coming back either.
Don't worry; you're safe liking it.

These names are obviously enjoying new appeal...to a nauseating extent.
(---unfortunately, some , like Emma/Emily and Isabel-and the many variations-- have spread like THE PLAGUE and have become SOOOOO tired and redundant...)

Apparently no one seems to care that these names are connected with many senior citizens in our population.
I have ALWAYS thought of the above listed names as "old ladyish names" and still do.

People these days must see older names as romantic...they think of characters from old love stories and of lovely young ladies from days gone by...

i think it wil prolly start 2 come back, but i dont think its ever gonna come back in full. it hasn't been on the top 1000 names since 1986, and it hsnt been in the top 100 since 1926(source: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames )

I never see a name as an "old lady name" - especially the name Pearl. I really don't see it becoming popular at all. I never-ever see it in local birth announcements, and hardly ever on this board. And, even if it does it popular - who cares?
