[Facts] Meeko
Alright so this isn't exactly a person name, but this site still seemed the best place to go.This is my ferret's name and I got it from the Disney movie Pocahontas, where the raccoon's name is Meeko. I am thinking the name is made up, or made up by adding a male suffix to the word 'meek', but I thought I could as least ask if there are any alternate theories and if the name is present in any other literature or ever for humans. My lil' furball certainly isn't meek so I am hoping for something better!Thank you!

I don't think the name of that professor and the one of the racoon have the same origin though ^^;But still, since she is called "Meeko Mitsuko Karen Oishi", one can assume her name(s) to be japanese, eventhough she's from Mexico and doesn't mention any japanese heritage.I guess Meeko is an alternative english-based spelling of "Miko", or at least that's how I'd pronounce it. Miko is the name of the japanese shrine maidens, but can also be a female first name with many different meanings, f.ex. "beautiful child"

More InfoI found the name of a person bearing this name: Meeko Oishi, who is female and I am assuming from the last name is Oriental. She appears to be or has been at the University of British Columbia. I found mention of the name here:
http://www.ece.ubc.ca/~moishi/I have found many other pets with this name and also a fictional character from the Star Wars universe, Meeko Ghintee.I am hoping since there is an actual human with this name there is more to it then just being made up!

You could always send an email to Dr. Oishi and ask her if she knows where her parents found her name.
