[Opinions] Petra
I met a girl with this name yesterday. I thought it sounded pretty cool. WDYT?

2 opinions:
1) The name of the character in Poseur.
2) The maid who sings "The Miller's Son" in A Little Night Music.
Just not my style.

I love Petra, mainly because Petra, Jordan was the most incredible place I've ever been and it conjures up some great memories for me. But, I don't think I could ever use it. I know it is a girls name, but Petra (the place) was so massive and grand that it came across as very masculine to me. And while the name itself sounds feminine, I can't get the masculine association out of my head long enough to picture it on a girl, at all. I don't think it would work on a boy, though, so I doubt I will ever use it.
But I have to agree, it would be an incredibly awesome name to have.

I love it. I don't think I would probably use it, but I wouldn't rule out the idea. :-)
reminds me of Petrie dish and the dinosaur from Land before time
LOL!
Land Before Time... good movies. =]

I know :) I love them hehe
Eh, I don't like it.
I love Petra. Is so gorgeous, feminine, uncommon, and a little spunky.
Reminds me of a pterodactyl...
I love Petra!
I'm not big on place names like London or Boston, but I love place names like Petra and Euphrates because they're so obscure. Plus, they're just frigging COOL! Awesome name. I'd totally use it.

It's awesome!
So you don't hate *all* place names? =]
Because I love the fact that Petra is a place name. It's just so cool! And this comment wasn't meant to sound rude or argumentative. I'm genuinely happy, because as far as I'm concerned Petra is like, the coolest place name ever.

place names v names that are places
I agree that sometimes there is a lot of appeal in place names. But names like Adelaide, Georgia, and Petra were names before they were places. I'm sure with pretty much any given name you can find a corresponding city or landmark, because places are so often named after people. If you hated all names that were also places you'd hate every name.
Petra is a better name than Alabama
I used to be able to shortlist Petra but I can't like it enough anymore. It's neat though.

I like Petra. It's got a pretty sound, and of course the archaeological site is pure awesome as a namesake. It's on my favourites list.
S also likes Petria, which is related (peh-TREE-uh rather than PET-ruh). I'm still musing about that one.

I like Petra not enough to use it but I like it. I have it on my list of Sim names to use.
It's nice.
I can't help thinking of a horse though, since the only Petra I've met was a horse.
