I love it for a boy. :-)

I don't really like it. My first thought is of a city close to where I live rather than Janis Joplin, so that is probably why. It seems rather masculine to me, and I can't really picture it on a girl. I think it makes a better mn, though, than a fn for either gender.

I'd definately say girl because I automatically think of Janis Joplin. She was cool, as is the name. =]

It reminds me way too much of Janis, and I find the association depressing.

It has a druggy feel to it.

Joplin has a neat sound and I can imagine it on either gender. I think it would be one jazzy middlename. As a first they might end up being called Jop, but that's up to you.

Love it, though I like it because of Scott Joplin (I've heard of Janis Joplin, but I don't really know who she is). I think I prefer it on a boy, and as a middle name. The fact that it's a two-syllable surname ending in -n makes it a little trendy-sounding. (Not that I'm one to talk, I have a lot of names like that on my list, lol.)
