Number: 67 + 89Warning: The story is really long!!Amy, through the use of fertility treatment, got pregnant with octuplets! After hours of painful discussion with Ean, the couple decided not to undergo selective reduction. In the fourth month of pregnancy, one of the unborn babies, a little girl, lost the fight for life. Ean and Amy mourned the loss of their daughter, whom they named Laura Beverly Parks. As much as they had tried to prepare themselves for the possibility of losing one or more of the babies, the loss broke their hearts. Amy threw herself into the pregnancy, being extremely careful to eat healthy and avoid excess strain, anything she could think of to make the next few months easier for the babies. In the meantime, Ean started picking up extra shifts at work to generate some extra income before the babies arrived. Lucy, who was already good friends with Amy, began spending hours everyday at Ean and Amy’s house, helping with the cooking, cleaning, and watching little Alice to give Amy some sorely needed rest.
Finally, the big day arrived. Even the doctors were nervous. The most any of them had delivered at once was triplets! But a whole team of doctors flooded the area to try to keep both mom and babies healthy. At the end of the day, seven tiny children were wheeled into the neonatal ICU. Ean and Amy spent every waking moment with their fragile newborns, watching as they gained weight, fought illness, and slowly grew stronger. After four days, the smallest of the babies, Trenton “Trent” Oscar, succumbed to an infection in his underdeveloped lungs. The loss was a shock to the young couple who were told that he was getting better. They could not allow their grief to cripple them, however, because they still had six more children fighting for their lives. Finally, after twelve long days in the hospital, the first of the babies was released. Marley Sophia was home. Once she was released, the others soon followed. First James “Jamie” Nathan, then Lucia Nirvana were released in the week following Marley’s homecoming. Three weeks and four days after their births, Lyra Felicity and Kieron Sinclair were taken home from the hospital in the family’s new full size van (donated by a local dealership after all the press the family received). That left just baby Julian in the NICU. After a few days with no significant improvements, Ean suggested they try something he’d heard of once, cobedding. The doctors, eager for any new ideas on how to heal the small child, agreed with his suggestion. So Amy and Ean made the now familiar trip to the hospital, this time, with baby Jamie in tow. The doctors gently placed the small form of Julian’s identical twin into the bed with him. The boys lay close, taking strength from one another. After two days, the doctors announced to ecstatic parents that Julian was definitely improving. After just two more, he was ready to go home. The house is wild now, with a one-year old and six newborns but the couple receive a lot of support from the community and their families. Liam and Lucy especially have been very helpful, donating their time whenever they can and recruiting the help of their friends to do the same. Amy is overwhelmed but blissfully content with all her little ones.
