Elias and Kaitlyn's rock solid relationship was shaken to its very core recently when Kaitlyn awoke to the sound of a crying baby. Initially she thought the sound was coming from the couple's young son, Kinsley, but after checking on him she realised the sound was coming from outside the house - there was a baby on the doorstep. Shocked, Kaitlyn slammed the door shut and took a deep breath, telling herself she'd imagined the girl with the dark tuft of hair. Slowly she opened the door again and was horrified to see the baby still there - this was all far too Harry Potter for her. Glancing around the street she saw that it was deserted so scooped up the baby and rocked her until her cries softened. Kicking the door shut, Kaitlyn wandered back into the kitchen where she searched through the girl's blankets. What she found there shocked her even further. There was a note explaining that the baby, a girl, had been born three days previously but that her young mother could not cope. However, this wasn't the shock. The note claimed that the girl 'belonged' to Elias. Kaitlyn didn't know what to think. Had she foolishly believed that a teenage boy would settle down with his wife and child? Was the life she had been living, all a lie? As she waited for Elias to come home from work all day Kaitlyn pondered her dilemma. She could destroy the note and claim that she had no idea where the baby came from. However, she knew she couldn't do that. Elias was her husband and she loved him with all of her heart - she had to give him a chance to explain and a chance to meet his daughter. When he did return home he vehemently denied ever having cheated on Kaitlyn - he was far too in love with her for that.
Over the coming weeks Kaitlyn and Elias kept in close contact with the police as they waited anxiously for the results of the paternity test. However, the afternoon that the results were due, the police came to visit. They had received an anonymous letter explaining everything. It turned out that the baby, who the couple had named Aniston Kate, was not biologically Elias' daughter. Her mother had had an affair with Elias' best friend and Elias had always been kind to her. When she had told Elias' friend about the baby he had revealed to her that he'd never had any intention of being with her - he was moving to America in a few weeks time and didn't want anything to do with either of them. Heartbroken the girl realised that she didn't want anything to do with the baby either. She knew she couldn't give it away to strangers so, before she too left the country, she left the baby on Elias' doorstep, hoping he would raise her as his own and show the baby the same kindness as he had shown her mother. Kaitlyn and Elias were then told that they had no obligation to raise Aniston but they knew that this little girl was now a part of their family and that over the past weeks they had grown to love Aniston every bit as much as Kingston. Together, Elias, Kaitlyn and Kingston are carrying on the Brooke family tradition of adopting children into their loving family.
