Help[Opinions] Soledad
I've been thinking of this name recently, because of a book character. WDYT? I like it, and find it, for lack of a better word, "poetic", but I'm also a bit disturbed by the meaning that does sound a bit bleak.

My first association is Soledad Montoya from Federico García Lorca's Gypsy Ballads. It's a beautiful poem, but sad also.

It has grown on me recently and I quite like it. I agree it sounds poetic.

Oh, I think it's pretty. I love "Sol-" names, and a lot of "-dad" names appeal to me as well, so Soledad is like the perfect combination. My only problem lies with the bleakness (excellent description) of the name's meaning. I'm not sure I could use it for that reason alone. Then again, Soledad means nothing in English so I guess it wouldn't be such a huge deal.

To the non-Spanish speaker (me!) it looks sunny!
(Incidentally, I discovered a medieval girls' name recently, used in pre-Inquisition Spain for Jewish girls - Soloro. I love the "sun gold" meaning and it seems spunky, almost!)

I don't see anything disturbing about the meaning. What's wrong with solitude? When you're alone, in a calm, peaceful place, you can sort out your thoughts and properly consider things.

Well, as I said, I don't actually dislike the meaning as such, as I said I find it kinda poetic. At the same time, it doesn't seem the nicest thing to give a child a name meaning "loneliness" or "solitude" (though I hadn't seen in your perspective).
