I have one in my year at school. She TOTALLY suits her name. I never would have imagined that one would come to my school but there you go. CKE is right again!

It's just about the time when female Ashtons should start showing up in wedding announcements. :)

In 1986, Ashton suddenly became well-used for girls in the USA because of a character in the television miniseries North and South. For the next 11 years, until 1998, there were more girls born in the USA named Ashton than there were boys. Then the huge publicity given Ashton Kutcher, as well as the fashion for boys' names ending in -n, reversed that dramatically.

Ashton is nearly unique in being a name which had switched to predominantly female for a decade and then switched back to predominantly male again. It will be interesting to see what happens with the name if any of the girls born between 1986 and 1997 who bear the name become famous. :)

I like the sound and find it feminine enough but would rather it remain a boys name, because I'm sick of the way boys names are stolen lately and I wouldn't want it to go the way of Madison and Peyton.

I dislike it. It reminds me of the nasty one in John Jakes "North & South. Ashton & Brett were Orry's sisters, Brett was the nice one, Ashton was the conniving one. Ended up badly (Huzzah!).
Yep, I read that series as a kid, before the miniseries, even. Still re-read it at least once a year.

Asha is the only ash- name I like oon a girl, all the rest scream "boy" to me.

I actually like it for a girl but not for a boy. I suspect I may be in the minority here. I started to like it many years ago when I came across a place called Ashton. At the time I'd never heard of it used for a person.

I probably wouldn't use it though as it seems too trendy and now it is popular as a boy's name (especially because of Ashton Kutcher). But I might consider it for a middle name.

I don't much like it on a boy but it is awful on a girl! NN Ash is acceptable I suppose

Though, in all honesty, the name does nothing for me regardless of whether it's being used on a boy or a girl. But it is distinctly masculine in my mind.

I guess I like the name okay. I would not use it though. I knew a girl who had this as a middle name. It does seem kinda masculine to me though. I would rather see it for a boy.

No, I do not like it on a male or female. It seems to trendy and barren to me. I do like Asha, for a girl, or simply Ash. I also really like Ashley (on a male only though.)
