[Facts] Aquinnah
I'm wondering about the meaning of the F name Aquinnah. Thanks!
Replies
it could be from the name of the town Aquinnah in Massachusetts which is Wampanoag
'Carl Widdiss, a 41-year-old Wampanoag (pronounced wam-pa-NO-og), circulated a petition that asked residents if they wanted to vote on whether Gay Head should become Aquinnah (pronounced ah-KWIN-ah), which he said means "land under the hill."'

Hmmm... when I hear this name I associate it with Aquinas - as in Saint Thomas Aquinas.
* The meaning of the name Aquinnah is High Land.
* The origin of the name Aquinnah is Native American.

it is wampanoag and means land under the hill. aquinnah is a town on martha's vineyard, mass.
Sources?
This is a fact's board and we ask that you back up your statements with facts. Especially as "Native American" isn't a real origin - what tribe?

The last post did give the trive, Wampanoag. Wikipedia has an article on the town named Aquinnah and they site an article from the Boston globe on May 15th, 1997 as a reference for the origin of the name. The article was about the city's name change when it was given a Wampanoag name. I don't know what sources the newspaper used though.
