Aquila is a long-time favourite of mine. Very definitely male, and as far as I'm aware the correct Latinate pronunciation is a-KWIL-a. I doubt I'd use it, though it might sneak in as a MN :)

At first glance I thought the names were Aqua and Velva. Still kinda looks like that to me.

Vela reminds me to much of Harry Potter which I'm not fond of for me to want to see it in use. It is rather pretty though and the meaning is nice so I don't actually mind it.

Aquila is okay. On paper it is asthetically pleasing but the sound leaves much to be desired. AK-wil-a would be my chosen pronunciation from the ones you offer. But I would prefer a-KEE-la, (like Akilah) which is how I thought it was said when I saw it. That would be the Spanish pronunciation if it was in use as such I suppose.

My husband was friends with an Aquila, said a-KWIL-a. I like it well enough. Not my style, but it's nice to come across now and again.
Vela reminds me of Harry Potter. Don't care for it as a name.

I like Aquila when pronounced German.

I really like Vela, Aquila not so much. But if I were to pronounce it, I think I like a-KWIL-a better.
