[Facts] Mallory
My husband and I are pretty much set on naming our daughter, who is due in September, Mallory Rose. We LOVE the name Mallory, but I thought I would put the name out there to see if anyone has any associations with the name, or thoughts on popularity. We have done research on the meaning - from what we have found, Mallory is of French origin and means "bad luck." Does anyone know of any alternate meanings?
Thanks!
Thanks!

It does sound beautiful, and unless your friends all speak Old French I wouldn't worry too much. Or, for a more Arthurian twist, you might consider dropping one L and making it Malory, like Sir Thomas.
The meanings of names ... isn't the world full of Kathryns who will continue to believe that their name means 'pure', as we used to think? And full also of pregnant teenage Chastitys, as well as the more respectable kind! And dismal Joys, and cheery Doloreses. Don't let it worry you. Within days if not hours, the meaning of her name will be 'my wonderful daughter'.

Unfortunately, that's the only meaning. I associate Mallory with ducks because it makes me think of Mallard. :)
No, that's pretty much the only meaning. I really associate it strongly with the French word malheureux(unhappy) because they sound so similar(because of the origins of Mallory).
