Don't mind it. Quite pretty and not popular either.:)

I never much cared for it until I saw 'White Oleander'. Now I like it.Leslie, lucky mommy to Scott (2000), Delaney (2002), and Larissa (2005)

I like it, but I think it will take a particular kind of girl to bear it well. It is a very austere and dignified name, and it would be a bit difficult to be stuck with it if you don´t have a matching personality. If you are thinking about it for a child, I suggest you be careful to pick a more ordinary and all purpose middle name as a fall-back.

I agree that it conjures up an austere image; the astri- prefix reminds me of something astrigent and severe. I'm not a fan of this name.

I'm torn. I think I like it for non-Americans. I think that it's too "out-there," and the "ass" sound won't go over well on the playground. It's sort of like my liking Beatrix, would just not work, unfortunately (though I've been told Beatrice is fine.) I can't even suggest alternatives for you. :-"To love another person is to see the face of God." ~Victor Hugo

not my style at all

I find it rather harsh sounding.

It just sounds and looks too similar to Astroid to me to be an actual name.

I don't think these "id" names sound attractive at all. I've always loathed Ingrid and Sigrid - they just sound so harsh and grating. Astrid is nicer than those two, because it doesn't have the unpleasant "gr" sound as well, but it does begin with "ass" which could bring teasing in a US scenario.
