[Opinions] Angelina
So, when I posted that I loooove the name Angelie (pronounced AHN-zhuh-lee or AHN-juh-lee) but my BF finds it "too French" and loves Angelica, a few of you suggested compromising with Angelina.I haven't talked to the BF about this name yet, but I wanted to know your opinion. I personally love it even more than Angelica, and have ever since I first heard it, but here's my question: Miss Jolie. Does the name Angelina belong to her now? In other words, if I name my baby girl this, will it be like naming her Gwyneth, Oprah, Miley, or Uma?I certainly hope not, because I adore this name, and maybe I could talk the BF into it, even though he doesn't care for Miss Jolie. (Maybe the only man on the planet who doesn't!)Love to have your opinions on this, and also... MNs for Angelina? NNs? Thanks,
M.

I much prefer Angelina to anything that's been suggested. I do think of Angelina Jolie, because she's so well known, but that won't always be the case. I think the name is so beautiful and even though I'm not a fan of hers, I would still consider using it. Here are some combo suggestions:Angelina Daisy
Angelina Rose
Angelina Hazel
Angelina Grace
Angelina Phoebe
Angelina Pearl
Angelina Iris
Angelina Emily
Angelina Kate
Angelina Belle
Angelina Sadie
Angelina Sky / Skye
Angelina Zoe
Angelina Chloe
Angelina Violet
Angelina Brooke
Angelina Maeve / Mae
Angelina Madeleine
Angelina Rosie
Angelina Ruby
Angelina Rachel
Angelina PoppyAs fas as nn's go, there's Angie, Angel or Lina.

I love Angelina! For me Angelina is not associated with the actress; the "Angelina Ballerina" association is much stronger, personally. Angelina is also nice because it has several nn options: Ann, Anna, Ella, Elle, and Lina.Going off your previous list of middle names, I like Angelina Ophelia, Angelina Sophia, and Angelina Lucia. I also like Angelina Elanor, which wasn't on the original list, but in addition to liking the name it has the bonus of a Tolkien spelling, which I think you mentioned before that you liked.

I love Angelina - it's SO pretty! I've never really associated it with Jolie, though... not sure why. Possible NNs: Anne, Anna, Angie, Elle, Ellie, Lina, Gina. It's one of those names with a ton of options. For MNs, I like Angelina Margot, Angelina Violet, Angelina Winter, and Angelina Rosalie. Also, if you like Angelina, would you consider Angeline?

Much prefer Angelica. Even without the Jolie connection, I'd find Angelina overwrought and a tad cutesy.

Well, I’m an Angela, that makes me well-qualified to speak on “Angel” names. Hah - maybe that’s an over-statement but here’s my assessment: I’ve never heard of Angelie (pronounced AHN-zhuh-lee or AHN-juh-lee) before, but I just love it. I feel it would be a shame to compromise here. And, I personally feel Angelina would a compromise. This is a current fad name - more popular than Angela now for the under 5 set - and I credit Miss Jolie for this trend. Angelina is also one of those sickly sweet girl’s names that seems to be coming into fashion. I don’t care for this trend myself. I’m not a fan of the androgynous trend for girls either. Both are equally bad. And like your boyfriend, I don’t see the appeal of Miss Jolie. Other than being incredibly beautiful, I just find her, like other Hollywood actresses, a big faker. I guess that is her job, to be a faker, but I don’t really get the obsession with Hollywood actors / Actresses in general. I feel this obsession is driven by shallowness. Being good looking does not make for a good role model for kids.Ok, I got side-tracked there. I could go on and on about why I don't like Angelina Jolie, but I guess that is too much of a tangent. Other Angel names I like are Angelica - like you said - and Angelique. Angelique Kidjo is an African singer who has turned me on to the name. I could live with Angeline. And my name, Angela, is a little dated, but I think it is the original and it will come back someday... maybe like when I'm 90. (In about 60 years.)

WDYTO Angelia?Yes, I associate it with Jolie. I don't care much for it, but would probably like it better if not for Jolie.Do you like Angelia? This is my favorite of the "Angel" names. How about Angelita?

Hmm... Maybe because I'm used to hearing Angelina, I feel like something is missing when I see Angelia. Is it pronounced ann-JELL-ee-uh or ann-jel-LEE-uh? I'm afraid people would call her Angelina her whole life anyway, misreading it or mishearing it.I don't care for Angelita. I generally dislike the -ita ending. I live in Texas, amidst a large Hispanic population, and generally names ending in -ita are associated with middle-aged Hispanic women: Rosita, Margarita, Lupita, etc. However, I love the name Rita! Go figure. :-)Thanks for your help!M.

ann-jel-LEE-uh is how I pronounce it. I don't think people would mispell, but maybe. I don't care as much for Angelita either, but I do like Angelia. Maybe spell it Angeliah? I'm not one for creative spellings, but that would deter the Angelina spelling. Not sure. Angeliah might be mispronounced as an-jel-I-uh.Oh, I love Lupita. I never heard it before watching Man On Fire. With nn Pita, I think it's so cute (except the similarity to the bread).

I love Angelina. The Jolie association is strong but if you love the name I wouldn't let that stop you from using it.
