Help[Opinions] Everett (and Ulysses)
What do you think of it? I can't decide whether it's cool or hillbilly. I started to think about it after seeing O Brother Where Art Thou? in which the main character is named Ulysses Everett McGill, called Everett. I know it's not the best best best association, the character was quite the scoundrel, but I love the movie. And might as well ask about Ulysses while I'm at it.
So, in summation:
1. What do you think of Everett? Is it good to use or too hillbilly?
2. Does it go well with my general style?
3. What are some good nicknames? (not Rett, please)
4. Any middle name suggestions?
5. And what about Ulysses?

1. I don't think Everett is at all hillbilly. I really like it. I know two Everetts. One is about 50, and the other (my husband's cousin) is about 30, and neither is a hillbilly. I never saw that entire movie, but what I saw was hilarious. I didn't remember a guy named Everett, though.
2. I think it fits in with your style.
3. Both Everetts that I know sometimes are called Ev which I think is the best nn. I don't like Rett.

5. Ulysses is ok in theory, but I can't imagine a baby Ulysses. I can't think of any nn. I much prefer Everett.

I love Everett, and I don't see it as "hillbilly" at all (but I've only ever seen parts of the movie, not the whole thing). I associate more with it being a surname.
2. Does it go well with my general style?
I personally think it does.

I don't think a nn is necessary, but I'd personally call him Ev or Ever, both just on occasion.

Not at this time.

It's ok. A little over the top for a fn, IMO. Would be great for a dog. Not sure why I think that, though. :b

I am anti-surname as a rule and would rather see Everard, but I know others are not. Considering it on its own merit ignoring the surname part, well, I still don't really like it. It sounds stuck up and nasal.

Glancing at your PNL, it feels a lot less classic than those other names. It does stand out a bit. It goes OK though.

Evan springs to mind immediately. Ver and Val are possibilities too.

Everett I don't think is too 'hillbilly', I love this name by the way. I can see how it may be viewed as such but I personally don't see it as 'hillbilly'.
I think Everett is good on it's own but if you need a nickname for it, then maybe Rhett would be a nice choice.

Ulysses on the other hand I do, even though it's a Greek name. My great grandfather was named Ulysses (he went by "Buzz") and he was from the sticks of West Virginia... so that association comes directly to mind when I think of Ulysses.
I think Everett is good on it's own but if you need a nickname for it, then maybe Rhett would be a nice choice.

1. I don't see Everett as hillbilly. It is one of the few surnames I can stand (but wouldn't use) as a fn.
2. I would have thought you'd like something more classic, but I think it could work.

Up until recently I might have agreed that Ulysses isn't usable as a first name, but there is a supervisor where I work with the name. Ulysses is what he is called, no nicknames, no one seems to think it's strange, or have problems saying it, and I think it's great. So I have to disagree, and say Ulysses is totally usable.
