I much prefer Gail as a mn, just because I find it awkward to pair while in the fn position. I'm also partial to the spelling Gayle, but that's just because it's my middle name (well, also because I know a male Gail and so Gayle has always just "felt" more feminine to me)
For example,
Charlotte Gail
Matilda Gail
Felicity Gail
All sound better (imo) than their reverses.
I do like Gail Violet, though :)

I like Gail Diana best.
Gail's really nms unless it's used a nn of Abigail, but that's just me. I like Diana alot - classy and relatively uncommon.

I think Gail makes a really great middle name. Probably because it has one syllable. But apparently you want it as a first name. So I guess I like Gail Charlotte the best. But Charlotte Gail still sounds nicer to me.
