I like it a lot, though I still probably wouldn't actually use it. I'd love to see it on little girls these days though, it's a very pretty name.

I adore Leila, said the same way. I hate the spelling Layla. It looks like name diarrhea, as Array once said, and it just looks messy and lazy. And having lay in your name isn't great.

I think of the song, which is lovely.

I love Layla (spelled this way). I like the sound a lot, as well as the meaning and the Eric Clapton association. The only problem I worry about it using it on someone of non-Middle Eastern origin. When I posted about the name myself, some time back, most people said it was totally okay to use it, but others said they thought it would be odd on someone who was not Middle Eastern.

I like it spelled Leila. All other spellings look wrong to me.

Leila's one of my all-time favourites - beautiful and exotic - but I'm not as keen on the Layla spelling. Having said that, I do like the name and that spelling has the virtue of making it clear how it's pronounced. You won't end up with leela or lyla by mistake!

I love it. It's on my PNL.

Really really really dislike it. It combines two of my three pet hates in names: the 'ay' vowel sound (although some names get around it) and the L-vowel-L thing (like in Lily, etc). It feels really whiny and bratty to me. It's probably one of the few names I hate without having an association reason for hating it.
(In case anyone's wondering, the third thing is hard 'g'...although I do find Gertie strangely cute.)

It's one of those names young mothers around here gush over, because it's so delicate and "exotic".I know three Layla's between the ages 13-16. And I've seen enough Leila's, Layla's, Lila's, and Leela's in Birth Announcements to last me a life time. It just sounds flimsy.

I prefer it spelled Leila, but either way - it's a gorgeous name, IMHO. I like the combos Leila Vivienne and Leila Victoria.

I really like the name but I prefer Leila and Laila and even Leyla before Layla.

I think the name Layla is lovely! It's a rather new addition to my list of favorites, though I prefer the spelling Leila, personally. It's a name that ages well imo - cute for a little girl and pretty for a young woman.

I love the name. I know a 4 year old named Leila and she is adorable and the name fits her perfect. Very cute on a young girl and pretty on an adult

I much prefer the spelling Leila (as it is my car's name), but I do like Layla. I know the most adorable three year old Layla. I know most people think of the Eric Clapton song, but I have never heard it.

got me on my knees...Even just reading it I hear Eric Clapton's voice in my head. I heard this in a video store last year in TN for the first time. It was surprisingly pleasant on a little girl, and would age well, imho.

It reminds me of the Eric Clapton song. But it's a pretty awesome song, and I like the name pretty well, too.
