[Opinions] Re: Lucia
I love Lucia pronounced LOO-sha or (especially) loo-CHEE-ah (it reminds me of the saint). Something about loo-SEE-ah, though, really ticks me off.loo-SEE-a sounds horribly frilly and weird to my ears. For some reason it's one of those names that always gives the impression that the parents chose it just so they could call her Lucy, which boils my blood because Lucy is a full name all on it's own (look, Ma, no hands!). I know that Lucia isn't used that way any more than Lucille, Lucinda, Lucasta, etc., etc., but it sounds like that to me because the -ah sounds like an afterthought. Like it was added to Lucy. loo-SEE-ah doesn't seem to have a life of its own, the way Lucille etc. etc. do.That is why I really hate loo-SEE-ah. It all boils down to personal opinion, frankly. And frustration with the common opinion that Lucy, Sylvie and their ilk aren't names, just nicknames. Which you, of course, had nothing to do with. Sorry for such a long rant.
