I can see why people like the name because it's classic and elegant. The problem is, it's so popular over here for newborns up to women in their 40s (and over). Sibsets of Charlotte and Emily are very common as well, maybe people are inspired by the Bronte sisters. Sophie is also very popular. I like the name Sophie, but find Emily a very boring name.
And I've never associated it with the word harlot or heard anyone else say that (except people on this board).
