I love the name Arthur! Arthur Weasley is one of my favorite characters ever and I also like Arthur Golden, the author of Memoirs of a Geisha.
I don't think this name really needs a nickname but I wouldn't want to use Art either. Art to me looks short for Artemis, which I consider a girls' name.
