I don't know if this helps, but the Mahala I know is from a Jewish American family. Her siblings are Moishe (nn Moe), Hosannah (sp?)(nn Hosie) and Avram (nn Avi).
Their parents were very particular with names and her father speaks Hebrew (or Yiddish, I'm not exactly sure which).
