[Opinions] Alisa / Aliisa
My sister had a baby girl 11.3.-08. Now it seems that her name will be either Alisa or Aliisa (not sure is it spelled with one or two 'i's), and her nn is Allu. I don't know what her mn will be, but I'll post the whole name when I find it out.Anyway, that name surprised me very much, but I think I could grow to like it. I do hope it's Aliisa, though, because it's more rare in Finland than Alisa right now, and IMO Alisa looks little snobbish (at least here where I live). So, WDYTO Alisa / Aliisa?

I think it's beautiful though I'm not familiar with the Aliisa spelling. Allu is cute.

I really like Aliisa. It's pretty and I love the double vowels in Finnish. :-)

Congrats. Allu is a cute name.

I prefer Alisa, though I don't mind Aliisa. With Aliisa being more rare in Finland, it would probably get tiring having to explain that there's two I's.Congratulations to your sister!

Well, actually Aliisa is the more traditional form here....... but today many people prefer names that would work in other countries, too, so Aliisa is considered as more impractical and nationalistic form of Alisa. A bit similar story as with Iida / Ida or Aada / Ada (though by those names is the Finnish variant more common)

Oh, Alisa is one of my favourite names at the moment! Maybe its snobbish image comes from its "Swedish-ness" - I mean that usually the Swedish-speaking minority picks names like this for their children, and they're considered as the healthy class… On another hand, I checked Alisa's popularity in year 2006 - it was ranked as 37. first name by Finns and I didn't find it on the "Swedish" list at all. So maybe I speak only about my own experience - I know three Alisas - two of them speak Swedish at home and the third one lives in Amsterdam and comes from Russian family. I don't know, to me, Alisa is one of the most gorgeous names you can give to the child - It's internatioal, not too long, has a few nicknames and works well on both children and adults. But I agree that Aliisa is today a less common and maybe more interesting variant. But congrats to your sister! I hope you will let us know, what will be Ali(i)sa's (?) full name!Btw, my cousin has just had a baby girl, too - I wish her name taste was as good as your sister's. She isn't quite sure with the name, but her long-time female favourite has been Yölilja... I mean, seriously.

I prefer Aliisa. It's very pretty, and it reminds me of the witch girl in Moomins :-) Alisa is a little bit bland, IMO. I think Aliisa is much more delicate and interesting than Alisa.
