[Opinions] Viatrix
I'm not suggesting I'd use it, but it is the origin of Beatrice. I am curious to know peoples' reactions.
For some reason, I desire a deliciously common and closed-minded commentary with my breakfast tomorrow :-)
till then!!

You guys are so sweet

Octavia's point, if you read carefully, is not that you need to be more elaborate, but that you will get more out of this site by learning to understand others' opinions (no one is saying you have to agree with them). Otherwise, what is the point of asking for their opinions? It always seems that your motives rest in satisfying your own vanity and trying to bury your insecurities by belittling others. I hope this isn't too common for you to understand; perhaps I should have incorporated a gross excess of SAT words...
How is giving my honest opinions on an opinions board belittling others? Grow a harder shell. Just because I am unwilling to be your doormat doesn't mean you have to act like mine.
PS, I think it's good when people learn new words, don't you?

It's a fine name for a chemical company or medication.
You really don't need to come to BtN for "deliciously common and closed-minded commentary." You generate enough of it on your own.

No kidding.
Have you noticed that everyone here is a lot nicer than you are? And that most of our opinions are a lot more articulated and thought-out than yours? I really do not understand why you come here at all, you don't care a whit about anyone else's reasoning behind the names they like. I think your style's a bit cold, personally, but that doesn't mean it's not extremely successful at being "a bit cold," so I enjoy it anyway. Names for you are "tasteful" or "asinine." That is not helpful to anyone.
Also, being closed-minded is really boring. I tried it. It's so much better here on the sensible side of the fence.
Viatrix is very medical looking and sounding. I have always thought Beatrix was a bit ugly and mechanical. Viatrice is interesting though.
ETA: looking at Beatrix's page. Viatora is also pretty neat!

Hey now, in my defense, I have been more elaborate than simply stating tasteful and/or asinine. It's just that I don't feel all names deserve an elaborate answer. I think I'll continue exercising my prerogatives.
It is against the rules to disrespect my honest opnions though, whatever the tone or presentation. Don't think for a moment that I will soften my writing style just because a few ornery girls happen to retract their claws at any random moment for no accountable reason other than the fact that they're addicted to spouting invective. :)

That's the thing, though.
Somebody out there thinks the names are "deserving" enough to post about. If you're going to prove them wrong, you need to use a lot of words to do it. I don't have to tell you about all the reasons Theodora's great - you already know them. But if somebody loves something like Dakota, you have to spell out why it's bad, and you have to do it politely so they'll listen. In that way, their taste might change for the better. If you say "asinine" they will get mad and become more attached to their naymes. It is not an effective way of education. It makes you seem wrong even if you're right, and it doesn't make anyone change their minds or think harder. That's why I said it was strange that you posted at all - why would you say something like "asinine" without explaining why? the other party obviously doesn't know. People here actually are interested in opinions, generally, but not unhelpful onces.
Whatever, I don't care.

I will make an effort to be more thorough in my explanations.
Truce! :)
sure
My initial thought was Viagra lol
After I think about it for a while it's kind of cool, but I don't think I'd ever be able to get over THAT connection haha.

That was my initial reaction as well.
Not a bad name, but reminds me of "viatic". And the meaning of Beatrice I keep more in mind is that of "she who brings beatitude", as explicated in Dante's "Vita Nova".
Incidentally, it's a bit rich to imply people here are narrow-minded, coming from someone who seems to think his own taste is some kind of absolute parameter, that if he likes a name then it's universally sublime and that if it doesn't strike his fancy then it's automatically horrid.

Ooooh. I like that VERY much. VERY biting. :)

I like it.
A few things to keep in mind:
- It's close enough to Viagara that I think some would get the connection. Quite a lot, actually.
- It brings to mind the world "via" and "trix"
- It seems like a brand-name medicine.

pot ... kettle ... black.
Reminds me of the term "aviatrix" (a female aviator).
Not surprising as a variation of Beatrix

Oh, I'm never closed-minded about ethnic and unusual names, but I invariably close the door on poor invented variations and spellings (like Ryleigh), names dervied from shallow pop-culture influences (like Jagger), cutsie names that would hinder an adult (like Lily), silly word names (like Bluejay), or invented names with extreme flaws (like Evolet). You may see this as closed-minded, but I see it as avoiding disaster.

I wouldn't say that you're not close-minded concerning ethnic names, considering you've said cultures that use 2 middle names are silly just because you happen to dislike the practice.
No one is asking you to repress negative opinions, simply to phrase them in a way that's not rude and tactless.

I still do think multiple middle names are silly. It is my opinion. Respect it.
I dislike double middle names myself, but saying a whole culture is silly because of a matter of taste in names is plain ethnocentrism, a trait that doesn't deserve much respect.

(I agree with you on the middle names, by the way.)
Would you respect the opinion of someone who wanted to name their child a name you think is horrid? If you honestly would respect the opinion of those people, maybe others would respect yours.

I respect everyone's opinions on here. Turning a blind eye to distaste is another matter.

looks made up IMO, nms
I like Viatrix knowing it is the original form and source for all those other wonderful related names. It has an interesting history and I quite enjoy the meaning.
To me it honestly sounds like a cheaper generic version of a male impotence drug that starts with a V (the moderators wouldn't let me post the name as it was potential spam)
