[Opinions] Merari/Michal
Actually a unisex name (I prefer it on a girl). Biblical (OT) meaning "beloved" or "bitter," according to some translations. I'm really liking it.
Also... Michal on a girl. I love it. What do you think?

Merari's a new one for me - looks gorgeous but their is that Ferrari worry, and it looks like a girl's name.
(I'm a big fan of the similar Miriam, Mireille, Mirela, Mirella).
I have always loved Michal, and it's so underused. So many of those dated Micheles/Michelles and modern Mikaylas could benefit from being called instead by this stunning name of King David's daughter.
It is, however, properly pronounced with the gutteral Hebrew ch sound - something like the ch in the Scottish loch. It's often difficult for the average person to achieve that unfamiliar sound.
To lessen the likelihood of it being mistaken for a male name perhaps a short female mn could follow in a Michal's signature - say, Michal Jane, Michal Eva - that sort of idea.

I was planning on Merari for a girl, so no worries with the looking like a girl's name!
I also adore Miriam, Mireille, etc.

I just adore Michal! I have trouble making the gutteral 'ch' sound, so I would probably not use it but as a middle name. But oh, I love love love it. Kelila Michal is my current Michal combination.
Merari I've never heard before and am not sure how to pronounce it, but whatever way I say it it sounds nice. I think I like it.

I love Kelila Michal... my Hebrew name is Kelilah. :-) that's a gorgeous combo. I would probably use it as a fn, although here are some of my mn combos:
Sadie Michal (after great-grandmother)
Anne Michal (great-aunt)
Leah Michal (Biblical)
Eva Michal (Biblical)
Noa Michal (Biblical)
Nava Michal (I just like it)
Danya Michal (variant on a Biblical name)

I was too scared to mention Noa Michal - in case everyone started shouting that it was too boyish. I think that's one of the loveliest combos I've seen. :)
Those are so lovely! I was going to comment on each one individually but it would have been repetitive. Noa Michal might be my favourite. Danya Michal is beautiful too. They really all are.
Um, Merari is a boy's name. I can never think of it as a girl's name.
I don't like Michal because it's too much like Michael.
