[Surname] What is the surname 'Street' in Irish?
My Irish ancestor came over to Virginia in 1609 as John Streate. It is stated that he was Irish. What would his surname 'Streate' be spelled out in Irish?
In Gaelic, street means 'Sraid' but its different with surnames, right?
Thank you

Street is an English name and this John Streate was born in England as described at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/STREET/2008-01/1199988646.
There is an Irish language version of Street, i.e., Straoit. This is simply the English version spelt according to Irish orthography. I doubt that it has any historical validity.

Sorry! That last posting was wrong. I was confusing Street and Stritch (Straoits). These two names seem to be dominating this message board of late.
