[Opinions] Lucy, Jemima and Anya
What do you think of these names? I know Jemima is fairly popular in England, but I'm afraid of the syrupy connotations it has in the US. Lucy is just cute to me, I like it as a nn for Lucinda especially, but I'm having a hard time liking Lucinda completely because it sounds a little like Cindy which makes me shudder. I am just starting to like Anya a lot, Anna and Annie are my favorites. I'm thinking it might hard for peoples American mouths to say AH-ya instead of ANN-ya. What does everyone think?

Jemima will always be the pancake batter/syrup to me, although I can see how one would like it without those connotations. Lucy is nice but I don't like it as a nn for Lucinda, only for Luce (loo-chay) or Lucia (loo-chee-uh). Anya doesn't seem to match with Lucy and Jemima in my opinion. While the first ones are definately Brit sounding, Anya sounds scandinavian to me. I don't think it is difficult to pronounce though.

Lucy and Jemima are both faves of mine and I just love them. Both of those names are possible names for any future DD's of mine. Anya is nms, but I don't mind Anna or Annie.

I hate Jemima, sorry. It's ugly sounding and waaaaaaay too tied to Aunt Jemima. I'd consider it pretty unusable. Lucy is adorable but I prefer it as a nickname for Lucia (loo-SEE-ah), Lucienne, Luciana (loo-see-AH-nah), or Lucasta. I adore Anya but only as a nickname for Anna or Anastasia, as it is a nickname. It's too cutesy as a given name. I don't think you'd have any problems getting people to say AHN-yah instead of ANN-yah.

Jemima...is nms. The syrup connections don't bother me, though. What about something similar, like Gemma?
As for Lucy, maybe use it as a NN for Lucille? (Since you're not too fond of Lucinda.)
And as for Anya, I agree that most people will pronounce it ANN-ya. Between the other two, I like Annie.Hope that helped! :)

I would be surprised if a fellow American pronounced Anya as ANN-ya. I say it AHN-ya, and I know that most others would too.Jemima, to me, isn't really cute. I find it old-fashioned and country-ish. Plus, the the syrup thing doesn't make it so much better.Lucy is adorable, I've always loved it. Lucinda isn't all that popular, and even a tiny bit (very tiny) strange, but I think it would age well on a person.Over all, very good names. I like Anya the best.
