A years of triplets, and the Craige-Widells were amazed at how they had adjusted into their new life. Granted, it was not without its many difficulties, but overall life with their new children was wonderful. However, their blissful state soon came to a close when they found out Paula was pregnant again- with twins. They were completely caught off guard; their triplets were only 10 months old! Paula and Jackie were completely at a loss, things were going just fine, and they loved the children, but had wanted to wait a few years before they tried for more. Paula was considering abortion for a while, but soon decided against it. They pregnancy went well- things were a little tense between Paula and Jackie for a while, but they eventually adjusted to the new situation. Paula didn’t want to miss too much work, so she planned to hire a full time nanny for her children 6 weeks after the twins’ birth. They found a lovely young woman, Lucie, who had a lot of experience and children of her own, so the triplets had some time to get used to her before Paula went back to work.
Three and a half years later, Paula was pregnant again (planned this time :). Alex and Eliot were having a blast in kindergarten, and Gabe and Lucas were adjusting well to their primary class, but Maya was having some trouble. Maya had a lot of anxiety, and after the first day of school, it was painfully aware that she was having some trouble with her teacher. She was reluctant to talk to her parents about it at first, but she eventually admitted that she was terrified of her teacher, Mrs.Ullman. Apparently, she had raised her voice at Maya in front of the other students on the first day for not bringing her colored pencils, and then again the next day for asking her friend Josie a question about instructions while Mrs.Ullman was speaking. Normally, Paula would have encouraged her to be brave and try to understand why her teacher was frustrated, but Jackie convinced her that this transition to Elementary School was crucial, so they contacted the principle and kindly requested Maya be switched into another kindergarten class. They accepted, and Maya is loving her new teacher, Ms.Richmond, whom she called “a smiler.” It was very cute!
Paula and Jackie found out from an ultra-sound that their new baby girl, Casey, was going to be born with Downs Syndrome. They were understandably upset, and very jittery up until and through the birth. Luckily, after she was born, Casey showed no signs of heart or other problems which are common in Downs babies. Paula and Jackie were eternally grateful, and more than willing to accept their precious baby girl into the family and do all they could to learn about Downs Syndrome and what to expect.
