[Opinions] Evgenia
While Eugenia is currently one of my top girl names, Evgenia has been on my mind a lot these past couple of days. Not only does it look awesome IMO, but I like how using this spelling would have an incorporated component of my grandmother's name (Evelyn). It also seems much spunkier to me compared with the soft Eugenia. I can't decide which I prefer!
So,
1. How would/do you personally pronounce Evgenia upon seeing it?
2. What are some nice nicknames for Evgenia?
3. Do you prefer Eugenia or Evgenia? Why?
Thanks so much! :D

I pronounce it 'yev-gen-eeah', g as in game. There is a bok with called Evgeni Onjegin (Russian) that we had to read in high school, so this name is more Russian to me.
The nn I like is Eva (E-vah'), which I love.
I don't like either namethat much, I'd choose Evgenia.

I pronounced it ev-GEN-yah upon seeing it, but I'm pretty sure that's wrong.
I like it much better than Eugenia - never liked Eugenia much. Eulalia, Euphemia, Eudoxia are great, as is Eugene, but Eugenia is just - ugh. (Observe my mighty powers of wording. I can't finish a sentence without having to resort to crude not-actually-words. Not-actually-words, yes, which technically cannot be used as a noun. And I'm fragmenting, and starting setences with "and" - it's hopeless.)
Upon seeing Evgenia, I actually thought of Iphigenia before thinking of Eugenia. I love Iphigenia.
ETA: Other posters said it's pronounced ev-yen-ee-a - I like that. For nicknames maybe Eeny, Nia, Ven, Yen, Vine, Vee?

1. How would/do you personally pronounce Evgenia upon seeing it?
ehv-ZJEN-yuh (or) ehv-ZJEN-ee-uh
2. What are some nice nicknames for Evgenia?
Eva
Evie
Evvie (which is a nn for Evelyn)
Jenny
Jeannie
Eeja
3. Do you prefer Eugenia or Evgenia? Why?
I think both are nice. I lean toward Evgenia because it is less obviously a femenine form of a male name.

I've never seen this name used, only the male form Evgeni. (Evgeni Malkin plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Franchise). Even though I have never seen this name, I think it's BEAUTIFUL! I would pronouce it Ev-gen-i-a. I would use the nickname Gina with it. But you could use Jen or Eve/a. I prefer Evgenia, it sounds much nicer IMO.
So,
1. How would/do you personally pronounce Evgenia upon seeing it?
ehv-YEHN-ee-ah (the Greek pronunciation)
2. What are some nice nicknames for Evgenia?
Not sure.
3. Do you prefer Eugenia or Evgenia? Why?
I prefer Eugenia, which is pronounced the same way as Evgenia in Greek (they are just variant transcriptions). I also prefer Eugenia because it was the middle name of my grandma and great-grandma.

It reminds me of my Greek-American friend's mother's Greek name which is pronounced 'ehv-yeh-NEE-ah'. I'm thinking that Evgenia is an anglicised transcription of the Greek name.
I love it and I've told my friend's mother that I love her name, however, I must admit, I like the sound better than the anglicised transcription.
I do, though, like Eugenie and Eugenia more than Evgenia but not by much. Eugenie is probably my favourite just because I can't resist a name with an -ie ending. :)
As for nicknames, how about Evya ('EHV-yah')?

Evgenia is intriguing. As a Eugenia / Eugenie lover, almost any variant is a welcome one. :-)
I would pronounce Evgenia with a hard "g," and I would be hard pressed to suppress a "yev" at the beginning. "yev-GHEN-ia"
Nns include Evie / Evvy ("EV-ee" not "EE-vee"), Genie, Genia, Ginnie?
I think my heart still belongs to Eugenia / Eugenie.
Evgenia reminds me of a similar name, Evdokia ("ev-duh-KEE-a"), a variant of Eudoxia / Eudocia. I just thought you might like that one as well.

I'd pronounce Evgenia ev-JEN-ee-a. Evie is probably the most obvious nn but Eve, Gina, Genny, Gen, Eva, Nia, Genie, etc. could also work.
I think I actually prefer Evgenia :). I've never heard of it before, but it's very striking. Eugenia has always sounded (for lack of a better word) gross to me. The GEEN sound just literally sends shivers down my spine. I love Eugenie (prn. oo-zhen-EE) though! Strange.
