I do like the nn Howie, but Howard I am not so sure about. At the same time, I don't hate it, its different (not heard of much these days) and a nice change from (my loves) William, David, Joshua.
All in all, I guess I approve it on another child other than my own, especially with Howie (although, I am not sure how Howie ages, but that's something he would personally choose)

Cute :-)
Maybe not something I'd use myself but it's quirky-cute.
One related name (at least related by sound) that I've liked for ages is Howe, although I've never wanted to adopt it as one of my "likes" because I'm not as into using completely random surnames as I think I'd have to be for Howe. Still like it, though.

No. Way to old-school, and it wasn't even cool then.
I just think of it as a surname since I know about three different people with that last name.
Well, I don't have any immediate associations, and I think it's cute. :)
Honestly? I hate it
Howard is nms and I think it is a way too oldfashioned.
It's cute, but it reminds me of two things:
1. Have you ever see The Benchwarmers? Well, there's a character named Howie who's afraid of the sun. A friend sees him out of the house for the first time and goes, "Howie, you finally left the house!" to which Howie responds, "Richie told me about the killer on the loose. He's killing anybody named Howie. That's my name... that's my name..."
2. There was a rather chubby man that used to live down the street from us. For some reason my dad had to write a little note to him once and by accident wrote Hewie. In his response, Howie crossed it out and wrote "MY NAME ISN'T HEWIE."
I guess it's kind of a joke name in our house, which is why I couldn't use it personally. It'd be nice to see it around on a kid, though. :)

I think it's way past its Use By date. It has some charm to it, but a goofy, nerdy kind of charm. With Howie all I can think of is Ramona Quimby's friend Howie, the one with the pesty little sister Willa Jean. lol
