I just got back from visiting my family in Michigan. My grandmother and I got on the topic of family history. She was talking about her father, named Guido and his father Nando. Does anybody have any idea what Nando could be a nickname for. I doubt Nando is the full name. I wanna try to find some history on him but I'd really love to have some names to work with that relates to Nando (pr. NAHN-doe) Thanks!

Also Portuguese. Here in South Africa there are grilled-chicken restaurants called Nando's, with some branches in England as well.

I'm from Sicily and Nando is a very common name that is short for Ferdinando most of the time (although I prefer Fernando myself).

In Italy, Nando is used as a nn for Ferdinando or Fernando (itself a contraction of Ferdinando, but I think sometimes it's used as a full name).
The name used to be relatively frequent, but not super-common either, nowadays it's slightly fallen out of use. I associate it more with the South of Italy.

Yes, Kate. Not as much as Gianni, Giuseppe or Giancarlo... but is common.
