Help[Opinions] Kyah/Kya
I was looking through my name book and found the name Kyah... it can also be spelled Kya... It is African and means "diamond in the sky." I love the sound of it and I adore the meaning... I would definently use it on my child. What do yall think? :)

Yes I love the sound and meaning too. Kya is very pretty.

The meaning and roots of the name don't sound accurate to me. You have to be careful of most "baby name books" and "baby name websites" (unlike this one, which is an etymological site with accurate info). Kaya / Kaia -- pronounced KY-ah -- is a lovely, legit name, though nms.

Its nice enough, I prefer Kyla a bit more though.

I'm not sure I believe the name book, and the meaning seems suspect. However, the sound is quite lovely so I would look for names of a similar sound.

There's a Kaia in the database. It's a variant of Katherine and means "hen" in a Scandinavian language.
Also, if the meaning is important to you, I'd look for secondary sources. Baby name books are notoriously inaccurate. Especially if they don't give an origin more than 'African' and with a princessey, feel-good meaning like "diamond in the sky", I'd do some independent research. You could post on the name facts board, and there's also an African name book under the book link on the main page. You could get it from the library.

I completely agree with you on this one. A book should give the specific language of origin, not just say the name is African. I find the idea of lumping African names together like that extremely ethnocentric. It would be like listing all names coming from Europe as European, as if each place had the same language and culture. I also find the "meaning" of the name quite suspicious.

I like it a lot, however I'd spell it Kaya.
