Help[Opinions] Ayaka?
The name Ayaka has been on my mind lately.
A few questions:
1)How would you prn it if you saw it? I say eye-ay-kah.
2)Do you like the spelling Ayaka or Ayeka? I am kinda leaning towards Ayeka because I see -yak- in the middle of the other way.
3)MN suggestions?
4)What sibling names do you think go with it?
5) Overall, WDYT??

I would pronounce it "ah-yah-kah" because I speak some Japanese and have also known a few Ayakas. One went by Aya "ah-ya" because it was easier for non-Japanese to remember and pronounce. People who don't know Japanese do tend to call her "eye-ya".
I would have to say Ayaka because Ayeka because looking at Ayeka I wouldn't have a clue how ot pronounce it. My brain is trying to tell me to say "AY-kah".

Naomi even though Eglish Naomi and Japanese Naomi are not related
Lisa as Japanese doesn't have 'l' Lisa and Riisa is the same
Akemi "A-keh-mee"
Emi (kind of like Emmy)
Hana (kind of like Hannah)
Mai and Mei (kind of like May)
Midori (in Australia it's an alcoholic drink)
Miki (kind of like Mikki)
Noa (kind of like Noa1)
Nana (kind of like nana in banana)
Rei (kind of like Rae)
Rio (kind of like Rio1 with a short 'o')
Sakura (the well-known cherry blossom)
Sora
Maki (kind of like the word 'mucky')
Yuri (kind of like Yuri1)
Akaya is an ok name, but it isn't my favourite Japanese name.

1. I think immediately: ah-YA-kah. I think that's how it would be more accurately pronounced in Japanese.
2. I prefer Ayaka for some reason over Ayeka, but both look OK.
3. I'm not sure whether you'd like Japanese mn to go with this one, so I'm going to suggest a mixture:

Ayaka Celeste
Ayaka Cho
Ayaka Claire
Ayaka Daphne

1) I would say AH-yah-kah or eye-AH-kah. The former would be more correct, IIRC, but the latter would be easier for most people in the US.
2) Well, given your pronunciation, I'd rather it wasn't Ayaka. Ayeka would be a better choice. It has some precedence; for the various incarnations of the anime Tenchi Muyo!, Ayeka was used as the romanization of a character's name to make it easier for audiences to pronounce it (it would normally be Aeka), and I recall that in the dub, her name was pronounced the way you're saying it. However, as a real-life name, I don't know what its history of usage is (as far as Ayeka or Aeka goes), if there is any. You would do well to ask over on Facts about it--there are some kids who are very well-informed on Japanese names.
Skipping the middle two questions as I've no inspiration at the moment, and I don't believe in matchy siblings. ;)

So is the correct prn ah-yah-kah? Because I am familiar with Tenchi but actually forgot that this was one of the girls names! My prn was how it is said in the English dubbed versions of the cartoon I think. But I was under the impression Japanese wasn't stressed? Am I wrong? I feel the prn eye-ay-kah would probably be easier for native English speakers to prn, what do you think? Just because of names like Aisha and Ayana with similar prn and I find myself kinda stumbling over ah-yah-kah, and when I say it fast it kinda sounds like my prn anyway. I don't know. AH! :)

You're right that Japanese isn't really stressed, but unfortunately, I'm very thoroughly American--I can't help putting stresses in words. ;)
As far as I know, ah-yah-kah would be correct for Ayaka, and eye-ay-kah would be correct for Ayeka / Aeka. For any more information than that, you're far better off going to the Facts board--I'm actually a student of French, lol. I just had an Anime Phase some years ago and remember a bit of what I learned from it. :D

Haha yeah that's funny because I have studied French also. And I had an Anime phase too. But I only know about three words of Japanese :P Thanks for your help!! I just posted on the Facts board about this name and hopefully someone knows about it! :)
