[Opinions] Re: Got to disagree with you on the "horrible sibset" assertion.

Actually, Freya and Anais are names steeped in much more history than the name Destiny. Destiny has been a name for a very short time and I actually consider it a dated 90's name as it was trendy there for awhile.
I do not bash the name Destiny, or Trinity or Liberty for that matter, but I do find them tacky and yes...'stripperish'. This is not based on some idea in my own head, it is based on a bit of fact. If a lot of people have met strippers named Destiny than there is going to be an association with the name Destiny and stripping and people will likely label it 'stripperish.' The same would go for Freya and Anais. If there were a lot of strippers with the stage name Freya then Freya would likely be associated with strippers and be labeled 'stripperish.' There is logic behind most people's associations with names and I think that if people find stripping immoral or disgusting then they are likely to find a 'stripperish' name tacky. This really has nothing to do with class, money, or status (unless you have the idea that all strippers are lower class people).
"What irks me is that people who find Destiny tacky don't seem to have a really precise reason. It's not that they don't like any word names (in fact they might be quite fond of River or Iris or even something as outré as Apple or as contrived as Lily-Rose); it's not even that they don't like abstract concepts as names (there's certainly nothing tacky about Grace, and Verity and Honor may pass muster as well); it's just that there's something "trashy" or "stripperish" about Destiny, and its cousins Genesis and Charisma. "
I just stated my reasoning and I would like to think that it was logical and thought through. I will also address the rest of your statement. I do not like most word names because most word names do not have the history or background that regular names have. That is a logical reason for not liking word names, no? Yes, I like the name Iris. That is because Iris has been used for a very long time (unless you consider a hundred or so years a very short time). To be honest, I don't like virtue names either. Not because they don't have a history (because many of them do, like Faith, Hope, Grace, etc) but that they almost force a person to portray the virtue as given by their name and if they don't then it will be used against them in teasing and mocking. It also sets unreasonable standards as no one can be perfectly faithful, hopeful, or graceful.
So, yes, I dislike Destiny and Essence and Charisma. Does this make me a snob? I think not. What it does mean is that I have used my logic to come to a decision about what I feel about the name (like I do with most other names), just as you have come to your own logic about why you dislike or like the name Destiny.
