Help[Opinions] Topher?
When I first heard Topher (which was in the comments for Christopher) I'll admit I thought it sounded weird, and all I could think of was tofu, which somehow makes me think of tuna :-/ But then the other day, while we were waiting to go on a roller coaster, my sister said, "You know what name I really like? Topher. I think it's a cool name. I'm going to name my son Christopher and call him Topher for short. It's so cool, and it even sounds like gopher! I think I'll rename my hamster and call it Topher".
At this point I reminded her that her hamster is female, which apparently didn't matter to her.
Now I am rethinking this name a little. Maybe it's not so bad. I do think that I'd rather name my hamster Topher than my son. Topher does sound pretty cute for a hamster...
So WDYTO Topher? Is it an alright nickname for a child? Can it last a while, or should it only be used for kids?

For some reason I've always liked Topher and Kemper for brothers. So I guess I do like it. I never heard of Christopher going by Topher.

I would prefer Christopher with the nickname Topher, though I don't particularly care for Topher at all. I went to school with a Christopher with that nickname.

It's ok, and better than the once-ubiquitous Chris, I suppose, but it makes me think of gophers, too. :b
I worked with a woman who had two kids, Christopher and Anna Katherine. She said she'd always liked more unusual names so she was surprised she ended up naming her kids more 'normal' names, but tried to make for it by nicknaming them Topher and AnnaKate.

I've only ever heard it pronounced like 'TOFF-er', however this reminds me of the word 'toff' which is not a good association IMO.

It interests me. Just a little. Maybe I'll tack it onto the end of my guilty pleasure list. I think it would be more easily accepted as a name or nickname if it were more common. I personally have never encountered a Topher aside from the actor Topher Grace. It's growing on me...

Topher is a character in A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. it is surely the worst book i've ever read and had no plot, climax, or really anything that demonstrated the slightest bit of literary skill. There is nothing wrong with the name Topher, i just have bad associations with it, so i personally wouldn't use it. but it's a normal enough name.

Christopher is very nice, it has grown on me. And I like the nn Topher, especially the way it looks. I think it sounds a little better pro. more like TAH-fur though instead of TOE-fur.

I think it's really silly sounding. I have an ex named Chris (Christopher) that I used to call Topher when I wanted to piss him off.

I think it could last. My brother had a friend named Christoper who they called Topher/Tover. Very interesting, and it beats "Chris" any day. I quite like it.

Well, I adore Christopher. It's probably my favorite boy's name. Can't say the same for Topher, though. My creative nn for it is Risto, but I don't like that as much as full Christopher, which is why I'd probably never use it in the first name slot.
Topher's okay for a child and adult though, and I suppose wouldn't mind seeing it on either. It is cute for a hamster, though. :D
