I'm reading Harry Potter, and suddenly...I've found myself in love with the name Kendra. I'm not sure why, it's a bit trendy for my usual taste. However, the sound is just so very pretty. I was thinking of Kendra Helen to match Liora Judith and Ivy Christine. Wdyt?

Kendra Helen flows nicely. Kendra seems trendy to me, so it goes a bit against your naming style, which is more classic, so I'm not sure it's really perfect with Liora and Ivy (esp. Liora) but on the other hand, the 3 names are euphonic together, so it's not has if it stuck out like a sore thumb either. I agree with what others have said that the name is a bit of a odd choice for Dumbledore's mother, as it sounds too modern and commonplace. Considering her children's names, and that her husband was named Percival, I would have expected either a classical name, eg Clytemnestra, or a Medieval one, eg Heloise.It also goes against the trend of all HP names, which are either Greek/Roman (Andromeda, Hestia,Alecto, etc), Medieval (Wilburga, etc) or classic English (Harry, Ron, James, etc). Maybe Rowling was tired of having to dream up of all these wizard names!

I love Kendra for the same reason. I don't think it matches Ivy too well, but Liora it does.
The name Kendra is not trendy. It's more like it is trendy by association because of the demographic that used it 20-30 years ago, IMO. It is no more trendy, as far as I'm concerned, than Marilyn.
*snort* I just read the comment that in HP, Dumbledore's mother is a Kendra. Seems like a lame choice to me ... kinda like naming her Marilyn!

I was also surprised that she used Kendra, but I'm glad to have found it. :-) It's just such a lovely, lovely name.

Perhaps it's the "ken" in it but Kendra has always felt masculine to me. Not that I consider it a male name, it just has a rough sound to it. Like Array said, Kendra Helen feels choppy. I think Kendra would sound better with a longer mn. I also don't think it matches Liora Judith and Ivy Christine.

Kendra has a pretty sound and looks very nice, but I agree with you that it's a little trendy. It's not bad, though, and Kendra Helen sounds fine to me.
Hmm... while Liora Judith and Ivy Christine go very well together, I just couldn't see Kendra with them. Kinda anti-climactic in a way, you know? I'm sure it could grow on me, but I suppose it's not as lovely as Liora and Ivy.

Every Kendra (by which I mean two) I've known has been a classy cellist. One was very outspoken--the other quiet but rather elegantly stately. I have very good associations with the name because of them.
Kendra Helen feels a bit choppy to me, but it feels nice with Liora Judith and Ivy Christine.
